The Extinction Protocol

December 8, 2012CHINAChina’s most famous book of prophecies, the 7th century Tui Bei Tu, makes no direct mention of the end of the world. But in Sichuan province, panic buying of candles has swept through two counties in the fear that an ancient Mayan prediction that the world will end on December 21 proves to be true. “Candles are selling by the hundreds, with buyers constantly coming to the market. Many stores have run out,” said Huang Zhaoli, a shopper at the Neijing Wholesale Market, to the West China City Daily newspaper. Mr Li, the owner of the Guangfa grocery store in Chengdu, added: “Lots of people have been buying candles recently. At first, we had no idea why. But then we heard someone muttering about the continuous darkness.” The source of the panic was traced to a post on Sina Weibo, China’s version of Twitter…

CounterPsyOps

By Adrian SALBUCHI, NewDawn magazine

In today’s increasingly interdependent and interactive world, every action has a myriad of causes, meanings, objectives and reactions; many visible, many invisible. Some, openly admitted and declared; others no one would dare confess.

When trying to come to grips with the many complex conflicts going on in the world and the dizzying pace at which they transpire, it would be a mistake to approach them in isolation. Syria’s civil war, Egypt’s “Arab Spring,” the destruction of Libya and Iraq, growing China, crippled Japan, the Eurozone crisis, America’s “missile shield” in Poland, Iran’s nuclear program, the coming Latin American “Spring…” Approached haphazardly, the picture we get is one of utter chaos. Approached applying the…

Rally in Melbourne: End Indefinite Detention, End ASIO checks on Refugees

Friday, 25th May 12.30 – 1.30 ; Dept of Immigration, Casseldon Place (cnr Spring and Lonsdale Sts) Melbourne VIC

By: Refugee Action Collective

At least 56 refugees are facing indefinite detention after being declared a ‘security threat’ by ASIO. This includes two families with young children. They have no right to review or appeal the decision, nor do they have the right to know the grounds on which they have been rejected. Three Tamil refugees rejected by ASIO have attempted suicide in Broadmeadows detention centre. Alongside this mounting despair inside the camps, there is a growing chorus of outrage against this affront to natural justice. Join the Refugee Action Collective (Vic) in calling on the government to scrap ASIO checks. Refugees are threatened by persecution and danger, not a security threat. The government must act immediately to release the refugees into the community.
