Can the Million Mask March turn a vendetta into a victory?

As a general rule, state-run and corporate mainstream media networks will only allocate coverage to certain demonstrations, namely those that are aligned with either state-sanctioned political parties or advocacy groups.

Anything else outside of that is normally swept under the control desk. The amnesty-immigration rally that took place on the National Mall in Washington DC during the government shutdown was given prime time by the media because it promoted a political party agenda. This is the globalist, corporatist way of keeping control over “consensus reality” regarding dissident movements. In other words: if it’s not on the BBC, or CNN, then it didn’t really happen.

That old stratagem of control is becoming less and less effective as word of mouth has also become globalized.

Despite the media blackout, this one was still hard to miss – an international Million Mask March organized by demonstrators around the globe and fronted by the hackivist confab known as Anonymous.

The million masks they are referring to are that of the Guy Fawkes caricature made hugely famous by the blockbuster film, “V for Vendetta,” which was adopted as the public face of hacker group Anonymous.

Marches took place at 450 locations in cities all over the world. Different regional groups had various, long lists of grievances, but you could boil it down to systemic corruption throughout government and censorship in the media – all for the benefit of corporations. It’s hard to argue that this isn’t the case everywhere.

Sparse mainstream media coverage of one of the largest events, in central London, was almost exclusively fashioned around celebrity personalities in attendance, like Russell Brand, who could be seen tweeting from Trafalgar Square, and who, amidst all the Guy Fawkes masks and black balaclavas – provided a recognizable anchor for media photographers and journalists.

At first, I was skeptical of this march for a number of reasons, not least of all because of the opaque nature of this version of civil disobedience – hiding behind a mask. Beyond the Hollywood references, what does it really mean?

AFP Photo / Chip SomodevillaAFP Photo / Chip Somodevilla

This is perhaps the most profound – but not the most surprising aspect, of our brave new post-Snowden world, where a very significant social trend is defined by a disguise. It’s the idea that surveillance has become so pervasive that dissenters no longer wish to show their faces whilst protesting in public or in their parallel world online. Question: doesn’t this approach actually empower the state in the long run?

Where Hollywood forges a new reality, the real world tends to bend it back into place. Besides the obvious theatrical benefits, in the movie “V for Vendetta” the masked march was vindicated because the objective was achieved – parliament was successfully blown up, and the corrupt head of state and inner circle of corrupt politicians exposed and brought to justice. The scenes in London and Washington DC didn’t have as desirable an ending as maybe fans of the film might prefer. British police could be seen in their usual show of force – storm troopers bullying crowds, cherry-picking young males and bundling them into the back of police vans, and then driving onto the sidewalk with lights and sirens blaring. Crowds eventually dispersed and returned home.

It is an extraordinary thing that a piece of British tradition and folklore such as Guy Fawkes Day has made the rounds on the global popular culture circuit, and even more incredible that this mantelpiece of culture would be imported into America with such fervor. That was made possible because that piece of British history was first transformed into a DC Comics edition, and then into a larger-than-life mythology recreated by Hollywood, and not just for entertainment – but for profit, giant profits in fact. Turns out that the rights to the iconic Guy Fawkes mask made famous by the “V for Vendetta” film are owned by Warner Brothers – so a royalty on every mask purchased goes directly into the pockets of Hollywood fat cats. The irony for both the Million Mask March and Anonymous cannot be ignored. Both would aid in the transfer of millions of dollars out of the pockets of demonstrators, before trickling up to the very institutions and intellectual property moguls who are their sworn enemies, often referred to as “the 1 percent.”

In 2013, the 99 percent are still heavily reliant on the 1 percent for most things, from their smart phones to their symbology, and even for their counterculture. Why can’t the 99 percent fashion their own symbols and market the kind of iconography which Hollywood managed with the Guy Fawkes mask? No doubt, a few media executives and shareholders are snickering at this unique situation.

To get a better understanding of the Million Mask March, I decided to spend a few hours riding shotgun via the Internet. I joined their DC march around 4pm EST just before dusk on the East Coast from my remote viewing location in London via a Livestream link, courtesy of one demonstrator known as “James From The Internet.” The demonstration had split into two or three main groups; I was following the group heading toward the White House.

For anyone who hasn’t yet followed a live event through an independent video stream, you are missing what is probably the purist experience in live media – all the sights and sounds of a live event, with essential commentary, and no commercial breaks.

Video operator James was well prepared for the long DC march with his GoPro camera and a backpack full of extra batteries to power his camera and phone for the duration of the Livestream link. James was what every media ground correspondent should be, but so often isn’t – accessible, down to earth, and friendly.

At first glance, the event in DC resembled the Occupy movement in many ways – appearing to attract subscribers from a similar demographic, and using much of the same language and strap lines – “We are the 99 percent,” and decrying the crimes of “the 1 percent.” Occupy slogans were being chanted by the crowds. “Show me what democracy looks like, this is what democracy looks like!” was followed by, “Whose streets? Our streets!”

You could hear the crowd chanting the famous Guy Fawkes line as they marched down Constitution Avenue, “Remember, remember, the 5th of November…”

Here is when I came to understand that this young crowd marching in DC was not at all one-dimensional, or as robotic as your garden-variety Occupy crowds. The chants continued to expand on previous calls, shouting, “Whose world? Our world!”

Things got more interesting as the column marched towards the US Federal Reserve building, chanting, “End the Fed, end the Fed!” A small group stopped for a brief rally at the steps of the building.

Passing the Federal Reserve, crowds pointed, and shouted: “Show me what hypocrisy looks like – that is what hypocrisy looks like!”

The conversation progressed: “We go to war in a foreign country, when all we have at home is bulls*** and hypocrisy!”

Up to this point, police had been mostly playing the role of shepherd, with some instigating and a few minor altercations. One masked marcher could be heard describing a brush with the police: “One cop kept asking us, ‘Who is the leader? We need to speak to him,” to which the protester replied, “There is no leader!” That exchange summed up how detached and out of touch law enforcement really is with what was going on that day.

Crowds were now closing in on the White House, chanting: “White House, Our House!”

Now in front of the White House lawn, this was perhaps the most encouraging part of this political adventure, and the point you knew this was not a Democrat party-steered, “Occupy-Lite” exercise. These kids had character, that was for sure. You could hear the crowd booming:

“Obama come out, we got some s*** to talk about! Obama come out, we got some s*** to talk about!”

Police moved in swiftly to form a barrier between the White House lawn gates and the masked crowd. One police officer could be heard asking people, “Please move back.” The crowd responded in kind. Soon after, James ended his Livestream transmission.

The age of the globally-coordinated flash protest has arrived. In the last few months alone, a number of well-organized and highly intelligent global demonstrations have been staged to protest a range of issues, from western military intervention in Syria to the cartel activities of GMO giants such as Monsanto. In Britain, the anti-fracking protests and the rally against the privatization of the NHS outside of the Tory Party conference were also significant. Both delivered the numbers and their message, but were blanked by the mainstream media.

The Million Mask March delivered the numbers, but somehow the message got lost somewhere behind the mask. But what this group lacked in succinct communication and a packaged political message, they made up for in hard graft, commitment and determination. The level of mental and physical commitment should be applauded – 10 hours of continuous demonstrations and marching. Contrast this to the veterans’ march a few weeks earlier, where demonstrators were active and even dumped metal barriers at the White House gates, but only congregated for about three to four hours, before they dispersed and headed home.

Aside from that, this DC march showed a level of independence, political realism and intelligence that cut right through the stale left versus right political paradigm. If systemic corruption in government and collusion with corporate raiders is going to be reformed, then we will certainly need crowds who can elevate the conversation to a higher level – like this crowd did on the Million Mask March in DC.

This crowd was young, creative and energetic and used most of the tools available to them. They clearly have chosen this homogeneous mask as their means of self-expression, which may seem contradictory on the surface, but indicates a far deeper psychological argument. Everyone should pay attention, stop and ask why young people are reaching for the mask. It speaks volumes in terms of where social politics are for this generation.

Now for the next challenge: How will they make their V move from just a Vendetta to a Victory? If you remember, at the end of the film, everyone took their masks off revealing a sea of individuals sharing similar values.

In real political terms, that’s where the real power is.

Stanley Cohen Speaks at Brown Hammond Benefit

Text of full speech reblogged from iStanleyCohen.org

“I’ve spent a lot of time speaking around the world and typically what I do when I speak to groups whether it’s in New York City, or in Palestine or in Egypt before I got banned, or Israel before I got banned, or in Syria before I’m not sure which side is winning, I give my Salam Aleikums to everyone in the audience. Especially, I give my greetings to the snitchers, the FBI, the CIA, the LSD, and everyone else here.”

Listen to the audio here:

“I don’t really give a fuck what you report. I really don’t, because I’m closer to the end than the beginning, and you know, you eat shit and die. Please make sure to tell the truth. Because the truth will set you fucking free, FBI. And I won’t call the president by his name. For those of…

http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2013/01/more-chargesfor-barrett-brown/ Barrett Brown, a self-proclaimed spokesman for Anonymous, has been hit with new charges by authorities in Texas for concealing evidence. It’s the third round of charges in a case that his former attorney describes as an attempt to silence the outspoken and provocative activist. “Clearly they’re more worried about what they perceive as his egging people on to go after defense contractors and secret spy organizations,” says Brown’s former attorney Jay Leiderman. “Barrett believes in privacy for individuals and transparency for corporations and government. The government doesn’t like his belief system. And Barrett was effective in expressing that belief system.” Read the full report here

http://m.cnet.com/news/anonymous-hacks-mit-after-aaron-swartzs-suicide/57563752 ust hours after the Massachusetts Institute of Technology pledged an investigation into its role in events leading up to the suicide of Aaron Swartz, online hacktivist group Anonymous defaced the school’s Web site. Swartz, a Reddit cofounder who championed open access to documents on the Internet, committed suicide on Friday. The 26-year-old was arrested in July 2011 and accused of stealing 4 million documents from MIT and Jstor, an archive of scientific journals and academic papers. He faced $4 million in fines and more than 50 years in prison if convicted. After MIT President L. Rafael Reif issued a statement this afternoon promising a “thorough analysis of MIT’s involvement from the time that we first perceived unusual activity on our network in fall 2010 up to the present,” Anonymous targeted at least two MIT Web sites. Lacking the loose-knit group’s usual feisty language, the message posted on the Web site was a call for reform in the memory of the late Internet activist. After calling the prosecution of Swartz “a grotesque miscarriage of justice” and “a distorted and perverse shadow of the justice that Aaron died fighting for,” Anonymous outlined its list of goals under a section reservedly labeled “Our wishes:” We call for this tragedy to be a basis for reform of computer crime laws, and the overzealous prosecutors who use them. We call for this tragedy to be a basis for reform of copyright and intellectual property law, returning it to the proper principles of common good to the many, rather than private gain to the few. We call for this tragedy to be a basis for greater recognition of the oppression and injustices heaped daily by certain persons and institutions of authority upon anyone who dares to stand up and be counted for their beliefs, and for greater solidarity and mutual aid in response. We call for this tragedy to be a basis for a renewed and unwavering commitment to a free and unfettered internet, spared from censorship with equality of access and franchise for all. CNET has contacted MIT for comment on the apparent hacking and will update this report when we learn more. Read the full report via cnet.com

http://m.gawker.com/5966757/former-anonymous-spokesman-barrett-brown-indicted-for-sharing-a-link-to-stolen-credit-card-information Is it a crime for someone simply to share a link to stolen information? That seems to be the message conveyed by today’s indictment of former Anonymous spokesman Barrett Brown, over a massive hack of the private security firm Stratfor. Brown’s in legal trouble for copying and pasting a link from one chat room to another. This is scary to anyone who ever links to anything. In December 2011, Stratfor was hacked by Anonymous. Thousands of their internal emails were given to Wikileaks, which has been publishing them ever since. The credit card information of many Stratfor customers and employees was stolen and released on the internet as well, where it was used by fraudsters to make illicit purchase. Six men have already been arrested for the hack. But today it was revealed that Brown, who frequently spoke for Anonymous and was writing a book about the group, has also been hit with 12 charges relating to identity theft and fraud over the hack. Brown is already in a Texas prison, arrested in September for threatening an FBI agent. What was Brown’s crime in the Stratfor case? The first charge, which is also the most unusual, was for sharing a link in a private chat room which led to a list of hacked credit card numbers. This charge does not allege Brown actually had the credit card numbers on his computer or even created the link: He just allegedly copied a link to a publicly-accessible file with the numbers from one chat room and pasted it into another. (The other 11 counts in the indictment do involve Brown actually possessing stolen information.) Read the full report via Gawker

Greetings World

For too long, Anonymous has stood by with the rest of the world and watched in despair at the barbaric, brutal and despicable treatment of the Palestinian people in the so called “Occupied Territories” by the Israeli Defense Force.

Or as some call it, the largest open air prison in the world

Like so many around the globe, we have felt helpless in the face of such implacable evil.

The insane attack and subsequent threatened invasion of Gaza was more of the same terror and threats the world has seen for generations

When the government of Israel publicly threatened to sever all Internet and other telecommunications into and out of Gaza they crossed a line in the sand.

As the former dictator of Egypt Mubarack learned the hard way – we are ANONYMOUS and NO ONE shuts down the Internet on our watch.

To the government of Israel we issue you this warning only once.

Do NOT shut down the Internet into the “Occupied Territories”, and cease and desist from your terror upon the innocent people of Palestine or you will know the full and unbridled wrath of Anonymous.

And like all the other evil governments that have faced our rage, you will NOT survive it unscathed.

To the people of Gaza and the “Occupied Territories”, know that Anonymous stands with you in this fight.

We will do everything in our power to hinder the evil forces of the IDF arrayed against you.

We will use all our resources to make certain you stay connected to the Internet and remain able to transmit your experiences to the world.

As a start, we have put together the Anonymous Gaza Care Package which contains instructions in Arabic and English that can aid you in the event the Israel government makes good on it’s threat to attempt to sever your Internet connection.

It also contains useful information on evading IDF surveillance, and some basic first aid and other useful information.

We will continue to expand and improve this document in the coming days, and we will transmit it to you by every means at our disposal.

We encourage you to download this package, and to share it with your fellow Palestinians to the best of your ability.

We will be with you.

No matter how dark it may seem, no matter how alone and abandoned you may feel – know that tens of thousands of us in Anonymous are with you and working tirelessly around the clock to bring you every aid and assistance that we can.

We Are Anonymous

We Are Everywhere

We Are Legion

We Do Not Forgive

We Do Not Forget

To the oppressors of the innocent Palestinian people, it is to late to EXPECT us

Declaration of Independence of Cyberspace

by John Perry Barlow <barlow@eff.org>

Governments of the Industrial World, you weary giants of flesh and  steel, I come from Cyberspace, the new home of Mind. On behalf of the  future, I ask you of the past to leave us alone. You are not welcome  among us. You have no sovereignty where we gather.

We have no elected government, nor are we likely to have one, so I  address you with no greater
authority than that with which liberty  itself always speaks. I declare the global social space we are building
to be naturally independent of the tyrannies you seek to impose on us.  You have no moral right to rule us nor do
you possess any methods of  enforcement we have true reason to fear.

Governments derive their just powers from the consent of the  governed. You have neither solicited nor received ours. We did not  invite you. You do not know us, nor do you know our world. Cyberspace  does not lie within your borders. Do not think that you can build it, as  though it were a public construction project. You cannot. It is an act  of nature and it grows itself through our collective actions.

You have not engaged in our great and gathering conversation, nor did  you create the wealth of our marketplaces. You do not know our culture,  our ethics, or the unwritten codes that  already provide our society  more order than could be obtained by any of your impositions.

You claim there  are problems among us that you need to solve. You use  this claim as an excuse to invade our precincts.
Many of these problems  don’t exist. Where there are real conflicts, where there are wrongs, we  will identify them and address them by our means. We are forming our  own Social Contract . This governance will arise according to the  conditions of our world, not yours. Our world is different.

Cyberspace consists of transactions, relationships, and thought  itself, arrayed like a standing wave in the web of our communications.  Ours is a world  that is both everywhere and nowhere, but it is not where  bodies live.

We are creating a world that all may
enter without privilege or  prejudice accorded by race, economic power, military force, or station  of birth.

We are creating a world where anyone, anywhere may express his or her  beliefs, no matter how singular, without
fear of being coerced into  silence or conformity.

Your legal concepts of property, expression, identity, movement, and  context do not apply to us. They are all based on matter, and there is  no matter here.

Our identities have no bodies, so, unlike you, we cannot obtain order  by physical coercion. We believe that
from ethics, enlightened  self-interest, and the commonweal, our governance will emerge . Our  identities
may be distributed across many of your jurisdictions. The  only law that all our constituent cultures would
generally recognize is  the Golden Rule. We hope we will be able to build our particular  solutions on that
basis. But we cannot accept the solutions you are  attempting to impose.

In the United States, you have today created a law, the  Telecommunications Reform Act, which repudiates your own Constitution  and insults the dreams of Jefferson, Washington, Mill, Madison,  DeToqueville, and Brandeis. These dreams must now be born anew in us.

You are terrified of your own children, since they are natives in a  world where you will always be immigrants.
Because you fear them, you  entrust your bureaucracies with the parental responsibilities you are  too cowardly
to confront yourselves. In our world, all the sentiments  and expressions of humanity, from the debasing to the
angelic, are parts  of a seamless whole, the global conversation of bits. We cannot  separate the air that chokes
from the air upon which wings beat.

In China, Germany, France, Russia, Singapore, Italy and the United  States, you are trying to ward off the virus of liberty by erecting  guard posts at the frontiers of Cyberspace. These may keep out the  contagion for a small time, but they will not work in a world that will  soon be blanketed in bit -bearing media.

Your increasingly obsolete information industries would perpetuate  themselves by proposing laws,  in America and elsewhere, that claim to  own speech itself throughout the world. These laws would declare ideas  to be another industrial product, no more noble than pig iron. In our  world, whatever the human mind may create can be reproduced and  distributed infinitely at no cost. The global conveyance of thought no  longer requires your factories to accomplish.

These increasingly hostile and colonial measures place us in the same  position as those previous lovers of freedom and self-determination who  had to reject the authorities of distant, uninformed powers. We must  declare our virtual selves immune to your sovereignty, even as we  continue to consent to your rule over our bodies. We will spread  ourselves across the Planet so that no one can arrest our thoughts.

We will create a civilization of the Mind in Cyberspace. May it be more humane and fair than the world your governments have made before.

“Army Admits Re-Education Camp Manual “Not Intended For Public Release”

by: Paul Joseph Watson

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Fort Leonard Wood Public Affairs director Tiffany Wood has provided the first official response to the shocking U.S. Army document that outlines the implementation of re-education camps, admitting that the manual was “not intended for public release” and claiming that its provisions only apply outside the United States, a contention completely disproved by the language contained in the document itself.

After a reader sent Wood a link to where the manual, entitled FM 3-39.40 Internment and Resettlement Operations (PDF), can be downloaded on the army.mil website (but only by military employees with special credentials), Wood responded by stating that the document should not be in the public domain.

Public Affairs Director falsely claims document does not apply within U.S.

The document was not intended for public release,” said Wood, adding, “Any other questions regarding the document, you will need to file a FOIA request.”

This means that either hackers have obtained access to a secure military website and downloaded the manual or it was leaked by a military employee concerned about the content of the document.

As we have exhaustively illustrated, the document is a training manual for U.S. Army personnel that details how to treat detainees incarcerated in prison camps both abroad and inside the United States.

Ive changed some of the word colouring to red to highlight some interesting facts that have come up in this email. Serious this is a MUST READ about Iran, Israel and the USA.

On Monday February 27th, 2012, WikiLeaks began publishing The Global Intelligence Files, over five million e-mails from the Texas headquartered “global intelligence” company Stratfor. The e-mails date between July 2004 and late December 2011. They reveal the inner workings of a company that fronts as an intelligence publisher, but provides confidential intelligence services to large corporations, such as Bhopal’s Dow Chemical Co., Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and government agencies, including the US Department of Homeland Security, the US Marines and the US Defence Intelligence Agency. The emails show Stratfor’s web of informers, pay-off structure, payment laundering techniques and psychological methods.

have sources. That is what we are.

It clearly does not. Look at the thousand centrifuges. Please
reread the 2 stuxnet analyses.

There are enough iranians who have aliyah’d to israel that they
could easily train a persian looking, farsi speaking jew to go
into Iran for sabotage and not get caught. I don’t know that this
is happening nor do I assume that there would not be mistakes, but
its very possible to do this undetected. The key is recruiting
human agents on the bases. This was clearly done with stuxnet,
though it may have been unknowingly

Yeah this seems really unlikely. ’79 was a whole different
reality. The security establishment has the placed locked down.

There are still about 20,000 Jews in Iran (Tehran and Esfahan
mostly), but IMO, they are far too scared of being accused as
Israeli spies too actually help Israel out.

There used to be a lot of jews in Iran, not so much anymore,
that’s who I would recruit form.

How did Israeli commandos get to operate deep inside Iran
without being detected?

I agree. The argument here is that the proponents of
conventional war are ones that want the oil prices-but is it
really that simple? What about other economic effects? For
Israel, by this argument, it doesn’t matter what method as long
as it sets Iran back—-I agree with this. However, the
confidence that this guy has does not show publicly. By that, I
mean look at what Dagan was saying a year ago, and how quiet
Israeli leaders have been. Suddenly they are really pushing the
issue, and while Dagan isn’t it, his line is that conventional
war would be a mistake, not that Iran doesn’t need to be dealt
with. I don’t really like trying to interpret public
statements, but I think there is something here, and that’s why
I keep pushing this.

I think the info that Fred sent in previously needs to be looked
quite seriously here.

The insight seems like quite a stretch however it has been put
out there for some reason or another and is now playing in to
what we are seeing.

Insight below:

Source below was asked to clarify his remarks that the nuclear
infrastructure had been destroyed. Source response:

Israeli commandos in collaboration with Kurd forces destroyed
few underground facilities mainly used for the Iranian defense
and nuclear research projects.

Despite the reports in the media and against any public
knowledge, the promoter of a massive Israeli attack on Syria is
the axis India-Russia-Turkey-Saudi Arabia. The axis
US-Germany-France-China is against such an attack from obvious
reasons. Not many people know that Russia is one of Israel’s
largest military partners and India is Israel’s largest client.

If a direct conflict between Iran and Israel erupts, Russia and
Saudi Arabia will gain the advantages on oil increasing prices.
On the other hand, China and Europe are expected to loose from
an oil crisis as a result of a conflict. Based on Israeli plans,
the attack on Iran will last only 48 hours but will be so
destructive that Iran will be unable to retaliate or recover and
the government will fall. It is hard to believe that Hamas or
Hezbollah will try to get involved in this conflict.

In the open media many are pushing and expecting Israel to
launch a massive attack on Iran. Even if the Israelis have the
capabilities and are ready to attack by air, sea and land, there
is no need to attack the nuclear program at this point after the
commandos destroyed a significant part of it.

If a massive attack on Iran happens soon, then the attack will
have political and oil reasons and not nuclear. It is also very
hard to believe that the Israelis will initiate an attack unless
they act as a contractor for other nations or if Iran or its
proxies attack first. With the revealed of the new UN report the
Israelis have green light to take care of the Iranian proxies in
Gaza and Lebanon now with the entire world watching Iran. I
think that we should expect escalations on these fronts rather
than an Israeli attack on Iran.

How and when did the Israelis destroy the infra on the ground?

Why is that we see the vast majority of the increase in pressure
coming from Israel (I mean straight from people’s mouths) and
from the US (Such as Albright in the WaPo)?

Would anyone actually accept that this could let the Europeans
forget about the Euro crisis, something they have been
experiencing every day for over a year?!

Do we attribute any credibility to this item at all? I don’t
even see what possible disinfo purposes this could serve.

Source was asked what he thought of reports that the Israelis
were preparing a military offensive against Iran. Response:

I think this is a diversion. The Israelis already destroyed
all the Iranian nuclear infrastructure on the ground weeks
ago. The current “let’s bomb Iran” campaign was ordered by the
EU leaders to divert the public attention from their at home
financial problems. It plays also well for the US since
Pakistan, Russia and N. Korea are mentioned in the report.

The result of this campaign will be massive attacks on Gaza
and strikes on Hezbollah in both Lebanon and Syria.

wow, that’s an extremely revealing statement. The Israelis (i
believe it was even Barak then too) made very similar comments
following the Stuxnet news as well. THe whole ‘I’m not going to
admit publicly that we did it, but boy that was nice.’

i think we need a piece laying out the details as far as we know
of what happened and where and point out the holes in the
accident theory. i think our assessment on the constraints of an
Israeli attack on Iranian sites holds. It’s the sabotage efforts
where the most resources are being concentrated, which makes a
lot of strategic and tactical sense for Israel and US in dealing
with Iran at this stage

Israel hails deadly blast in Iran

(AFP) – 1 hour ago

JERUSALEM – Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak on Sunday hailed
the deadly munitions blast at a base of Iran’s elite
Revolutionary Guards and hoped for more such incidents.

“I don’t know the extent of the explosion,” he told military
radio, asked about the incident. “But it would be desirable if
they multiply.”

Iran said earlier that a senior general who pioneered an
artillery and missile unit was among the 17 Guards reported
killed in Saturday’s blast at Bid Ganeh, near the town of Malard
on the western outskirts of Tehran.

Guards spokesman commander Ramezan Sharif said the blast, which
Iran said was an accident, occurred as “ammunition was taken out
of the depot and was being moved outside toward the appropriate
site.”

Set up after the 1979 Islamic revolution to defend Iran, the
Guards are in charge of the Islamic republic’s missile
programme, including Shahab-3 missiles with a range of 2,000
kilometres (1,200 miles) capable of hitting Israel.

Saturday’s blast came amid international condemnation of Iran
since the release of a new UN nuclear watchdog report accusing
Tehran of working towards the development of nuclear warheads to
fit inside its medium-range missiles.

Israeli officials have in past weeks warned Iran of the
possibility of military strikes against its nuclear sites.
