VANCOUVER — Just five weeks after Ottawa outlawed B.C.’s cottage industry of cannabis dispensaries, one of them has just opened Canada’s first marijuana vending machine.

“Half an ounce for $50, which is unthinkable in the city,” said local hip hop artist Ray Gill, speaking Monday in a YouTube video promoting the new machine. “It’s like they’re just giving it away!”

The machine is operated by the B.C. Pain Society, a recently opened medical marijuana dispensary located a few blocks from the heart of Vancouver’s hip Commercial Drive district.

Society director Chuck Varabioff worked in vending machines before he went into medical marijuana, so the machine was a natural marriage, he said.

“It’s safe, it’s secure and your product does not get contaminated,” said Mr. Varabioff.

“Most other dispensaries in town, you don’t know what that product is getting contaminated…

A UN official has warned that Canada is facing a crisis over the conditions of its aboriginal population, “grappling with a housing crisis” as well as “poor education and healthcare.”

James Anaya, UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of the indigenous peoples, made the warning on Monday, as he published a report on the situation of Canada’s First Nations.

Anaya called on the administration of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to take “urgent action” to address the housing crisis for the indigenous population and to provide “sufficient funding” for services, including education, health and child welfare.

Anaya also commented on the situation of aboriginal women and girls, saying they “remain vulnerable to abuse” and called for a nationwide inquiry into the disappearance and murder of nearly 1,200 native women over the past three decades.

The Harper administration has repeatedly refused to launch a national…

In recent weeks I have seen articles and memes floating around on social media stating that the Harper government is attempting to sabotage or destroy the publicly funded Canadian health care system.

Leadnow.ca has a petition with nearly 50,000 signatures titled: Tell Prime Minister Harper: Don’t Sabotage Our Public Health Care. The petition states:

“Today, the Harper Conservatives had their first chance to make major changes to Canada’s health care since getting a majority government, and they launched a brutal sneak attack. They just sabotaged the Health Accord that protects equal care for all Canadians, and they’re cutting your public health funding by $36 billion over the next 10 years.1 2 It’s the start of Harper’s long-term plan to destroy our public health care system, and we have to stop it. The Canada Health Accord is the deal between the federal…

July 2, 2013ELMWOODLocal beekeepers are finding millions of their bees dead just after corn was planted here in the last few weeks. Dave Schuit, who has a honey operation in Elmwood, lost 600 hives, a total of 37 million bees. “Once the corn started to get planted our bees died by the millions,” Schuit said. He and many others, including the European Union, are pointing the finger at a class of insecticides known as neonicotinoids, manufactured by Bayer CropScience Inc. used in planting corn and some other crops. The European Union just recently voted to ban these insecticides for two years, beginning December 1, 2013, to be able to study how it relates to the large bee kill they are experiencing there also.Local grower Nathan Carey from the Neustadt, and National Farmers Union Local 344 member, says he noticed this spring the lack of bees and…

The Canadian Federal Court has confirmed that the country’s 2011 federal election, which led to the victory of Stephen Harper’s government, was fraudulent.

The court emphasized in a Thursday ruling that it has found in no uncertain terms that widespread election fraud took place during the vote.

The ruling also stated that “there was an orchestrated effort to suppress votes during the 2011 election campaign by a person with access to the [Conservative Party’s] CIMS database.”

Accordingly, the Council of Canadians has called on the Conservative Party to investigate the issue. It says anything less at this point would be a cover-up on behalf of the Conservatives.

The Council of Canadians says that the non-cooperation, obstructionism, and attempts to disrupt the Federal Court case by the CIMS makes it look like Prime Minister Harper has something to conceal.

Hidden Agendas

It has occurred as I thought it might, but hoped it wouldn’t. I am afraid that Users who have uploaded the 5 day “Citizens Hearing” on YouTube, have been forced to remove their uploads on the proceedings.  Thus, as a consequence, access to the footage of these  proceedings is now minimal and soon, I fear, will be a flat zero. This is wrong, this lack of access to what affects each and everyone of us should not be in place . All I can do is to apologize, on my own behalf, and to say that I did my very best to get the information out there – to you. David Ellis…

OTTAWA — The development of Alberta’s oil sands has increased levels of cancer-causing compounds in surrounding lakes well beyond natural levels, Canadian researchers reported in a study released on Monday. And they said the contamination covered a wider area than had previously been believed.

Canada’s minister of foreign affairs, John Baird, claims that Canada’s Middle East policy is motivated by Human Rights concerns and considerations of what is in the Canadian national interest. The Extinction Protocol

August 9, 2012ONTARIO, CA. – Fire officials said a Wednesday morning earthquake was to blame for explosion at an Ontario home that injured a man in his 70s. The 11:40 a.m. blast blew the windows out of the two-story home and adjacent garage, located in the 400 block of West Carlton Street, and sparked a small fire inside, according to the Ontario Fire Department. A garage door also was blown off, landing in a neighboring yard. Firefighters doused the blaze within about 10 minutes as paramedics treated the injured man on scene, officials said. He was later taken to an area hospital for an evaluation. A fire inspector later determined that an earthquake Wednesday morning caused some items in the garage to fall, opening a gas valve in the process, officials said. The garage filled with natural gas and, ignited by the water heater, ultimately exploded. The…
