When you take a look around the world, it becomes clear that our way of living is unsustainable. Some people will argue that over-population is to blame, but I beg to differ. I think that even though population may be a small factor in sustainability, the real problem is the entire paradigm of our current corporate driven, consumption based system, with a monetary system based on usury, and also institutional religions which manipulate mans irrational sign by using fear and shame to create a bunch of robotic believers who don’t hesitate to put money in the basket at mass. How much of that money actually helps the poor? God knows- pun intended.

You see, all corporations are under pressure to keep growing so that their investors are pleased with their investments and don’t end up selling. So corporations put the greater good for humanity and the well-being of the planet…

On the evening of July 26, social media lit up with messages from residents of the village Nabi Saleh.

“Four army jeeps and around 20 soldiers standing at the entrance” tweeted Manal Tamimi, and later, “for the third day (in a [row]) the army invading the village before eftar.”

Since late 2010, Nabi Saleh has been raided regularly by Israeli forces, and the religious month of Ramadan is no exception. The long awaited eftar meal brings relief to the fasting people. In the little village, only a 15 minute drive northwest of Ramallah, eftar often arrives with uninvited guests.

The reasons for these punitive raids must be found in late 2009 when people from Nabi Saleh and nearby villages organized to protest the occupation and the…

The Extinction Protocol

August 14, 2012 GREECEA senior member of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s party issued a stark warning to Greece on Monday, saying Germany would not hesitate to veto further aid to the country if there were any signs it was not meeting the conditions of its bailout. The comments, by the deputy parliamentary leader of Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU) Michael Fuchs, are a sign that frustration with Greece among ruling party lawmakers is nearing the breaking point. The ‘troika’ of the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund is due to decide on the disbursement of the next tranche of money from Greece’s 130 billion euro bailout package in September. “Even if the glass is half full, that won’t be sufficient for a new aid package. Germany cannot and will not agree to that,” Michael Fuchs told German newspaper Handelsblatt. “We long ago reached the…

The Extinction Protocol

August 14, 2012GALVESTON, TXHundreds of thousands of dead fish have washed up on the beach in Galveston, where crews went to work Monday to remove the dead fish. Peter Davis of the Galveston Island Beach Patrol said Sunday the small shad fish likely were killed by low oxygen levels in the Gulf of Mexico. Davis estimated hundreds of thousands of fish have died. Galveston County health officials said the water is fine for beachgoers. Biologist Steven Mitchell with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said calm conditions and summer heat may have contributed to the fish kill. He said there’s a possibility of a dead zone in the water off Galveston. Though testing is expected this week, some officials are already blaming the fish kill on red tide. –KWTX

August 14, 2012HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP)The Pennsylvania Department of Health is once again providing free potassium iodide tablets to help residents of the commonwealth prepare for public health emergencies involving nuclear facilities. People who live, work or attend school within a 10-mile radius of the state’s five nuclear power plants can get the tablets, which can help protect the thyroid gland against harmful radioactive iodine. The tablets were distributed Aug. 9 at 14 locations statewide, or can be obtained at state, county or municipal health agencies. Four 65-milligram tablets will be provided to each adult. Smaller doses will be given to children based on their age. The department says people should only take potassium iodide tablets when directed to do so by health officials or the governor. –Bloomberg Business

A NUN who has been superior at a Syrian monastery for the past 18 years has warned that media coverage of ongoing violence in that country has been “partial and untrue”. It is “a fake”, Mother Agnes Mariam said, which “hides atrocities committed in the name of liberty and democracy”.

Superior of the Melkite Greek Catholic monastery of St James the Mutilated in Qara, in Syria’s diocese of Homs, which is in full communion with Rome, she left Ireland yesterday after a three-day visit during which she met representatives of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference in Maynooth.

She told The Irish Times she was in Ireland “not to advocate for the (Assad) regime but for the facts”. Most news reports from Syria were “forged, with only one side emphasised”, she said. This also applied to the UN, whose reports were “one-sided and not worthy…

TEHRAN (FNA)- India is due to receive the first state-insured oil cargo from Iran in weeks after New Delhi joined Tokyo in offering government-backed insurance for ships carrying Iranian crude in order to bypass European sanctions against Iranian supplies.

The first Indian ship to carry oil from Iran with Indian insurance is scheduled to load up in Iran on Wednesday, a shipping company executive said. This is a breakthrough for the Indian government, which has sought to maintain vital Iranian oil imports after European sanctions blocked third-party insurance in July.

The MT Omvati Prem – a tanker contracted to carry 85,000 metric tons of crude oil from Iran for Indian state refiner Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. – is scheduled to arrive in India by Aug. 25, said Kowshik Kuchroo, president of shipping for Mercator Ltd., an Indian shipping company.

Bahraini protesters have held demonstration in the capital, Manama, demanding the downfall of the Al Khalifa regime in the country.

The anti-regime rally was staged on Monday night following similar protests in several villages and towns across the country over the past days.

Bahraini government forces have used excessive force against the protesters since the beginning of demonstrations in February 2011.

According to the leading opposition party, al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, more than 1,400 prisoners are being kept as hostages in the regime’s jails.

The group has accused the Manama regime of responding to the demands of the people with killings, arrests and torture.

Meanwhile, Bahraini security forces arrested four protesters in the northern village of Tubli on Sunday. The Bahraini forces also attacked protesters during an anti-regime rally in the northeastern island of Sitra.

The police frequently use teargas canisters, rubber bullets, and sound grenades to disperse…

[ PIC 14/08/2012 – 12:41 PM ]

BEIRUT, (PIC)– The International Quds Institution called on Arab and Islamic countries to confront the Israeli occupation authority’s recent accelerated attacks targeting the Aqsa Mosque.

Those countries should warn the IOA that it would pay dearly for any harm done to the Aqsa, the IQI said

It warned, in a statement on Monday, that the ineffective responses of Arab and Islamic countries and their silence at the official and popular levels were encouraging the IOA to accelerate its Judaizing measures in Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque.

It pointed out that this is the first time, since the occupation of East Jerusalem in 1967, the occupation dares to propose the division of the Aqsa mosque between Muslims and Jews at the official level, noting that repeated calls to divide the Mosque aim to test the Arab and international community’s reactions.

The Beirut-based institution condemned…

The volcano last erupted in 2009.Volcano Discovery.  Historical background:  Tofua Caldera, in Tonga, is the summit caldera of a steep-sided composite cone that forms Tofua Island. Tofua Island is in Tonga’s Ha’apai island group. Pre-caldera activity is recorded by a sequence of pyroclastic deposits and lavas constituting the older cone, followed on the northern part of the island by froth lavas or welded and unwelded ignimbrite. Following caldera collapse, lavas were erupted from the northern part of the island and the caldera-rim fissure zone, scoria and lavas from the caldera-wall fissure zones, pyroclastics and lavas from intracaldera cones, and recent pyroclastic…
